Sixth International Conference on the Sustainable Economic Development of the Forestry and Power Generation Industry – Madeira 2012.
This is the sixth edition of a conference that has built a reputation for quality in the forestry and planted biomass power generation industries.
The event typically consists of two consecutive, full days of conferencing. 300 representatives from these industries attend the Conference to discuss challenging and innovative themes with Brazilian and international speakers of the highest technical caliber.
Senior managers of large businesses, engineers, researchers, consultants, government officials and management representatives from SMEs meet to discuss subjects that are strategic to enhancing corporate governance, crisis response and business efficiency.
Students are alsoexpected at the event, which will also address the subjects of certification, investments, innovation and the role of the forestry industry in a low-carbon economy.
The conference has provided inputs for the formulation of government policy on planted forests as sources of timber for the home uilding, pulp & paper, charcoal-based steelmaking and engineered wood industries, protecting our native forests from deforestation.
The primary purpose of every edition of Madeira, including the 2012 edition, is to bring together representatives from an industry that accounts for 4.5% of Brazil’s GDP and employs 9% of the country’s economically active population around the goal of strengthening this industry and its role in Brazil’s economy.
Under this common goal, industry representatives meet at Madeira to discuss subjects that are relevant to the development of this industry and the social and economic development of Brazil. The 2012 edition will continue this debate.
Conference themes will include strategies for strengthening the industry in the face of crises and enhancing corporate governance.
Instituto Besc organizes the Conference with the support and participation of the main organizations representing the industry, working towards this goal. Brazil’s forestry industry has a competitive advantage over its global competitors and tremendous growth potential.
Despite the benefits and investments it generates, there are still barriers to its expansion, which are seen as challenges needing to be dealt with.
Conferences such as Madeira 2012 provide a forum for discussion and integration of this production chain, which accounts for a
significant portion of Brazil’s economy.
Madeira 2012 will bring together business and government leaders – in various professional, technical and academic capacities – involved in the sustainable economic development of the forestry and power generation industries. The organizers hope to have approximately 300 attendees, who will share experience and knowledge in their various fields.
